FAQ
What types of services do you offer?
We provide personalized nutrition counseling, wellness coaching, and support for medical conditions like diabetes, weight loss, weight gain, growth concerns, food allergies, and many other nutritional concerns during growing and development. Sessions can include meal planning, behavioral strategies, and education tailored to your life and family.
What can I expect at my first counseling appointment?
Your initial visit is focused on understanding your goals, challenges, and history. We’ll discuss your lifestyle, nutrition habits, and any medical concerns. You’ll leave with a personalized plan and clear next steps. Appointments are collaborative and supportive. NO judgment, just guidance.
How long is a typical counseling session?
-
Initial session: Usually 60 minutes.
-
Follow-up sessions: Typically 30–45 minutes, depending on your needs.
Do I need a referral from my doctor?
It depends on your insurance provider. Many private insurance plans allow direct access to dietitians. If your insurance plan requires a referral from your primary doctor for nutrition counseling, please have your doctor’s office fax it to (833)542-6609, including all relevant diagnosis codes (such as overweight or diabetes).
Do you work with children, parents, or both?
I work with both children and parents. Some sessions focus on supporting your child’s nutrition and healthy habits, while others help parents address their own health concerns related to food, as well as feel confident with strategies and guidance for the whole family. Often, working together as a family makes healthy changes easier and more lasting.
Who do you work with during sessions—parents, children, or both?
It depends on your child’s age. For younger children, I mainly work with the parents, providing strategies and guidance to support healthy habits at home. For children ages 8–12, I work directly with them while a parent is present, so we can guide the child while keeping the family involved and supported.
Do you see the child and parent in the same session?
Typically, I see children and parents in separate sessions. This allows us to focus on each person’s unique needs, questions, and goals. Afterwards, we can share insights and strategies so the whole family benefits without anyone feeling overwhelmed.
Do you accept insurance?
-
We accept many major insurance plans: Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare.
-
Coverage varies by plan, so it’s best to contact your provider to confirm.
-
Many insurance plans also offer out-of-network benefits, meaning that even if we aren’t in-network, your sessions may still qualify for reimbursement. Upon request, we can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance for reimbursement.
-
Please note that payment is due at the time of service for out-of-network clients
We also offer self-pay options.
How do I find out if my insurance covers nutrition counseling?
-
We can verify your nutrition benefits on your behalf prior to your initial appointment. If we are not in-network with your plan, or if your plan requires a copay, we’ll let you know right away. You’ll always have the option to cancel or adjust your appointment before any charges occur.
-
However, we highly recommend that you call the member services number of your insurance company to verify your coverage for Medical Nutrition Therapy (MNT) before your first appointment.
-
When you call your insurance company, ask the following questions:
-
Does my plan cover Medical Nutrition Therapy? The CPT codes are 97802 for initial appointment and 97803 for follow-ups.
-
Does my plan provide preventive coverage for nutrition services? The diagnosis code is Z71.3.
-
Are overweight or obesity considered preventive? (If you are seeking nutrition counseling because of weight concerns.)
-
Does my plan offer medical coverage for Medical Nutrition Therapy?
-
Do I need to meet a deductible before coverage begins?
-
Is there a copy or coinsurance for Medical Nutrition Therapy? If so, how much?
-
Does my plan cover telehealth?
-
Do I need a referral from my doctor?

Ask for a reference number for the call and the representative’s name. This can be helpful later if questions arise.

How do I schedule or cancel an appointment?
Appointments can be scheduled online. We require at least 48 hours’ notice for cancellations or rescheduling to avoid a cancellation fee.
How do insurance, fees, and cancellations work?
We accept many insurance plans for counseling sessions. Insurance covers only the portion of the session that is actually attended. To simplify billing, we require a credit card on file for any portion not covered by insurance and for any outstanding fees, including cancellations or no-shows.

Late cancellations: Please give at least 48 hours’ notice. Cancellations within 48 hours will incur a 50% late cancellation fee, charged to your card on file.
No-shows: If you do not attend a scheduled session without notifying us, a 100% no-show fee will be charged.
This policy helps keep our schedule fair for all families while ensuring you know exactly what to expect.

Our practice is conveniently located at 264 N Main St, Suite 7, Natick, MA. Parking is available on-site, and we’re accessible by public transportation. Directions and a map are provided on our website’s Contact page.
Do you offer virtual appointments?
Yes! Telehealth sessions are available for clients who prefer to meet from home or are unable to travel. Sessions are conducted securely via a HIPAA-compliant platform, so your privacy is always protected. You’ll just need a device with a camera, microphone, and internet. Be sure to choose a quiet, private space for your session.
How should I prepare for my first visit?
Before your first session, you’ll get an email through a secure portal inviting you to create an account. There, you can:
-
Fill out forms and questionnaires (please complete them at least 48 hours before your session)
-
Upload any medical history or lab results
Having this information ahead of time allows me to personalize our session and make the most of our time together, so we can focus on what matters most for you and your family.
